Jerry Basil McElvain, 83, of Providence, KY passed away Monday, April 19, 2021 at his residence.
He was born February 5, 1938 in Muhlenberg County to the late Basil McElvain and Evelyn Mitchell McElvain. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Basil McElvain Jr. and Ben McElvain.
Jerry worked at Speed Queen as a factory worker and was a member of Harmony Missionary Baptist Church in Dixon. He was a NASCAR fan and enjoyed working in the yard and being outside. Jerry was an U.S. Army veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Jessie Hammond McElvain of Providence; two daughters, Gerri Lynn (Jerry) Moore of Providence and Jessica Utley of Providence; one son, Carl Wayne (Sammie) McElvain of Paducah KY; three sisters, Carolyn Mayes of Greenville, KY, Glenda Kenneday of South Carolina, and Marie Nesi of Illinois; one brother, Don Patrick McElvain of Illinois; along with several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Thursday, April 22, 2021 at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home – Providence Chapel, formerly Jones and Kirby Funeral Home with Bro. Kerry Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Green Grove Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Wednesday and from 12:00 P.M. until service time on Thursday at the funeral home.
